As many know, the Pope addresses to believers by celebrating a Mass in St. Peter's Square every Sunday during the Angelus at 12 o'clock. This is done always except in Summer, the season during which he goes to his residence in Castel Gandolfo. The Pope appears at the window of his private studio and blesses the crowd.
But there are also other opportunities to see the Pope in Rome, and for guests staying at Al Colonnato di San Pietro B&B in Rome they are all "close at hand". On one side there is our proximity to Saint Peter's Square and its Basilica with the colonnade from which we have chosen the name for our travel business, and which is partly visible from the building where you can find our Bed and Breakfast; on the other side is the famous Sala Nervi also very close to our B&B, and where Pope's General Audiences are held.
On Wednesdays the Pope holds public hearings, open to all and of course free to be attended, as we read on the web, you should contact the Office of the Prefecture of the Papal House, which should be open to the public every weekday from 9:00 to 13:00 o'clock - To gain entrance, one must be booked by fax. Also on the web we have found these reference numbers to request entry to the papal hearings: phone, by calling the numbers 06-6988.3114 fax number 06-6988.5863. Remember to indicate the pricise date of the hearing, the B&B where you are accommodated and your personal data.
During Christmas or Easter, in case of overcrowding or too many requests, the hearing is held in Saint Peter's Square or inside the Vatican Basilica, always one step away from the B&B Al Colonnato di San Pietro.
So if you want to attend the ANGELUS and the PAPAL HEARINGS from POPE Benedict 16th book our B&B! The public hearing is held every Wednesday of the year.
But if you will stay with us, it is not finished!
You will just need to go out of the front door of our B&B in Rome Al Colonnato di San Pietro to throw yourself in interesting walks in the historical Rome, that of Colosseum and Roman Forum, the monumental and Renaissance Rome of the streets and palaces around Farnese Palace, or Catholic Rome, actually in front of our B&B where to reach St. Peter's Basilica, the Vatican Museum and admire the beauty of the Sistine Chapel or the Pietà by Michelangelo. All around you.
